San Diego – kayak at Coronado Island

If you are comfortable with open sea, this is the post for you.

I adore San Diego, California. I had visited the place a few times already and was slowly digesting every single piece of marvel. But on a team building activity at my previous job I had finally the opportunity to enjoy Coronado Island. The highlight was definately kayaking on the Pacific Ocean (sort of).

We left on our kayaks from Coronado Island and rowed along the coast with only some small waves our way. It was a fun ride that took a total of two hours, with a local guide leading us. We saw plenty of fish, birds and some friendly sea lion. Which – let’s say it – did not smell that great, but it was indeed beautiful see the sea lions swimming freely in the area.

Our friendly guide also shared with us some facts, from which I personally remember just one. Dr. Seuss and his wife had a house at La Jolla beach. He got very inspired by the nature around him and even created some characters based on San Diego’s wildlife. Amongst them ‘Norval’, from ‘The cat in the hat’, based on Garibaldi fish.
